You will have the opportunity to visit and buy in the various shops founded and run by groups of local women. These associations seek alternative economic income for their families through various sustainable activities that contribute to the conservation of the Galapagos National Park.

Pescado Azul: Women's Association for the Production and Commercialization of sea food

The principal objective of the Pescado Azul Women's Association is to increase the quality of life of fishermen and their families in the community of Puerto Villamil, Isabela Island, Galapagos. The Association is made up of 6 women. The business provides a sustainable economic alternative for these women and the 200 fishermen who lack full time employment on the island.

Pescado Azul sells delicious Tuna fillets, smoked tuna pâté and fresh fish croquettes that you can enjoy during stay on Isabela Island. more...


OMAI

The OMAI (Organization of Active Women of Isabela) is comprised of women dedicated to creating handcrafts with the goal of creating alternative sources of employment for women. The project creates alternatives to fishing and a sustainable source of income for the women involved, the majority of whom are fishermen's wives.

OMAI create t-shirt designs, tie - dye designs, soft toys, key rings and other crafts. You can visit OMAI in their store on Avenida Antonio Gil in the centre of Puerto Villamil.

OMPAI
Organization of craftswomen of Isabela

Dedicated to creating hand finished recycled paper products, decorations for the home and other crafts, organization was founded in 2001 to increase the family income of the women involved. The group is composed of 24 women from the local community. The women work daily creating the crafts and meet twice monthly to plan and set objectives for the following month. The creation of their products seeks balance in the delicate ecosystem through the use of introduced natural plants found on the island thus helping with the conservation of Isabela.

OMPAI design recycled paper greeting cards. Their products can be bought from the OMAI store on Avenida Antonio Gil next to the Post Office.
